Youtube unveils a new update that will allow Youtube channel creators to particularly change their name and photo without impacting the Google account name.
How to Change the Name of a YouTube Channel?
YouTube creators who have both personal Instagram accounts and brand accounts have access to changing channel names without changing their Google accounts.
This can be done in either the YouTube Studio app or the YouTube desktop version.
On desktop, changing YouTube channel name:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- From the left-hand menu, select Customization and then Basic info.
- Click Edit to update your channel name.
- Enter your new channel description.
- Click Publish
Incredibly, YouTube has not yet updated its help page on changing the name of a channel without changing it on the Google account.
The help page states that channels can change their names three times every 90 days.
Since that is possibly still valid, creators need to keep in mind if they’re experimenting with different channels.
An Important Note For Verified YouTube Channels
It is advised that customers with verified YouTube channels be aware that if their channel name changes, they will lose their checkmark.
YouTube probably uses this feature to prevent impersonators.
If a channel can change its name to “CNN” and maintain its verified checkmark, it would be easy to create a fake news report and make it look legit.
There is, however, the option of changing the name of your channel and getting your channel’s checkmarks.
